The rock and gem world is rife with fraudulent material. This one, however, is the best yet. "Rainbow Calsilica" is a hilarious scam and the rare material commands a ridiculous price. To true believers it is a coveted jasper mined at a highly secret location over the Mexican border. According to my friend James it's sculpy clay treated with resin. If you google the stuff you will find pictures of a rainbow calsilica mine in "Mexico" that proves mother nature is the sole creator. But you can also find a report from French chemists who assayed the material and found it confoundingly high in man made pigments and plastics.
As a professional lapidary I can confirm that it is indeed man-made. Still, it's beautiful and funny, and during these times of seriously frightening political frauds, it's nice to enjoy one that doesn't cause so much harm.
Attached is a picture of the staged mine for your enjoyment.
The "stones" are 26mm wide and hang 38mm on hammered 14k gold wire.
