About Alison

Rocks and minerals are the beauty of the Earth! My world revolves around them. My expertise revolves around locating rocks, minerals, and fossils of all varieties. I work professionally as a lapidary artist, author and outfitter guide. Home is Portland, Oregon, but I'm often on the road.

I am excited to share that my first book, BEAUTIFUL ROCKS & HOW TO FIND THEM, published by Princeton Architectural Press/Chronicle Books, is now on shelves at bookshops and all major online retailers.

My second book, a rockhounding guide to the Pacific Northwest, will be published by Mountaineers Books in Spring 2025.

Each winter I self-publish THUNDEREGG, an art-focused zine that dives into our shared lives with rocks and minerals.

I am a proud member of the Mt. Hood Rock Club in Portland, Oregon where I learned to cut stones from members Susie and Deb (RIP) in 2014. It changed my life.

Consider joining me on one of my rock collecting trips in Oregon and Nevada, or venture out to Green River, Utah, for the Green River Rocks! Festival, which I help organize. You can find trip updates and stay in touch with me on instagram: @alisonjeancole.  ⚒ ♡
