About Alison

Rocks and minerals are the beauty of the Earth! My world revolves around them. I work professionally as a material miner, lapidary artist and author. Home is Portland, Oregon, but I'm often on the road.

I am excited to share that my first book, BEAUTIFUL ROCKS & WHERE TO FIND THEM, published by Princeton Architectural Press/Chronicle Books is now available for pre-order.

My second book, a rockhounding guide to the Pacific Northwest, will be published by Mountaineers Books in Spring 2025.

Each winter I self-publish THUNDEREGG, an art-focused zine that dives into our shared lives with rocks and minerals.

I am a proud member of the Mt. Hood Rock Club in Portland, Oregon where I learned to cut stones from members Susie and Deb (RIP) in 2014. It changed my life.

Consider joining me on one of my rock collecting trips in Oregon and Nevada, or venture out to Green River, Utah, for the Green River Rocks! Festival, which I help organize. You can find trip updates and stay in touch with me on instagram: @alisonjeancole.
