Oolite Earrings No. 1

These earrings are cut from oolitic agate from Oregon’s Malheur country. Oolites are beads of limestone formed in the shallow waves of a hyper-saturated, long-gone lake. Over time the oolites have been surrounded by silica, and are thus now encased in agate.

The stones are 21mm wide and hang 38mm on hammered 14k gold-fill wire. The earrings weigh 2 grams each.
